Running IGRP on Routers

I would like to know in a one to one router relationship is necessary to run IGRP as there are only one route? IF IGRP is installed will it affect the performance of the router and usage of bandwidth between two sites?

If you are running a link between two sites with only one path, why would you want to run IGRP? Just put static routes in!! If your link fails then then you have no alternative routes!
