hello
i have been writing and running awk scripts successfully on my HP-UX machine for a few years. awk has saved me uncountable tons of work in that period.

i also have a PC and i just installed gawk on that MS windows PC and it appears to have installed correctly. however when i open a DOS window and type in "awk -f ..." or "gawk -f ..." i get the message that "awk (or gawk)is not recognized as an internal or external command"

the DOS window is open in the same directory/folder as my awk script (that runs just fine in HP-UX).

i have to migrate some of my work over to the PC and would love to carry awk over as well.

clearly i missed a step in getting the PC to recognize that gawk is installed...... any guidance would be appreciated.

thanks, in advance

sorry i mis-typed the title...that's MS Windows....

You need to update your PATH variable to include the directory where you installed gawk.exe

Exactly how you do this depends on which MS operating system you're using.

In addition to making sure that the gawk executable is in your path, you may want to rename it from gawk3.3.1.exe to gawk.exe (of course).
