I have tomcat installed on my pc with a website loaded on it. This website includes this link

Play Game

which points to a file in the hard drive with the tomcat on. The idea is when clicked to get an Internet Explorer window saying Open/Save , and select open to run the batch file. I hace tried this and worked, but when i try it replicate the scenario on a different pc (with installed the batch file/tomcat etc) it did not work. Instead to run the game i must do : right click on the link->save as->open , to run the game instead of popping up the open/save option directly. Does anyone know whats going on ?

An tag is relative to the users machine - so if you have a link to some resource/file on the "C" driver, then the browser looks for it on the user's machine - not your server.

Also, please do not crosspost with other forums (Browser issues for IT professionals Forum)

sedj-> what you posted did not help me understand....the file IS on the browser's and the servers' machine...

why not crosspost ?

Well a link jsut does not "run" batch files or executables, it is for linking to resources such as files to download, or display in a browser. It is simply not there to run things on a drive ...

Why should you not crosspost ? I read your profile and noticed that you have never ever posted a reply to anyone else's questions, so I guess you might not realise. For many people in tek-tips, such as myself and many others, we post more than we ask - and so belong to many forums trying to help people like yourself. Now if people crosspost, then we may answer your question in forumA, and someone else answers it in forumB - now this just wastes the time of both posters, as we will be duplicating information.

This is just a friendly reminder not to crosspost, but if you continue to, then someone may "red-flag" your questions. Also, try to help out others if you can, and try answering some questions as well as asking.

Cheers,

sedj
