Is it possible to use befsr41 as a modem router instead of just dsl router? Like at times, DSL connection is down for few hours. Since i have a backup dial up service. Is it possible for me to connect through the router using my dial up account. If not will i be able to share it from main computer through dsl router to the rest 4 systems? Pls advise.Thanks

The product is called BEFSR41 - Etherfast cable/dsl router.. it ONLY Supports broadband - meaning cable/dsl.. however it could be used for dial up connection but it would not be a router it would just your ordinary switch.. and the physical connections would be different than what you have now...

You will need ICS software ( given for win98se and up ) additional NIC ( different brand so its easy to distinguish ) installed on your GATEWAY computer.. yes gateway computer... here is a rough diagram :

dial-up line ( external or internal modem )
(for internal modem 1 NIC only )

---> gateway computer ( with 2 NIC's )
( 2 IP ADDRESS - WAN and LAN )
( most suitable computer would be an XP computer since it allows

|
BEFSR41 ( through the UPLINK port)
| | |
| | |-( regular ports )
| | |-*NOTE: uplink is shared w/port 1)
COMPUTERS ( set to static ip and has proxy settings pointed to your gateway )

but of course if you do this you would have to reconfigure your system...

good luck....
