Hello

I'm about to buy Crystal Reports XI to interrogate a pensions admin system (UPM from Comino) which runs on our Citrix system (Windows 2003, SQL Server 2000.

My intention was to install Crystal on a Special Applications server (outside the farm) but the advice I'm being offered by Comino is that Crystal will only run on thick client - can anyone tell me if this is true or are they just saying that because it makes heavy demands on the network?

Also I'm not entirely clear which product to buy - I had in mind 3 Developer units (for the 3 people who'll be writing the reports) but do I need anything else to let the rest of the department use the reports created?

Many thanks

Jim McLean

Jim,

I believe your issue is around licensing and not functionality. I believe that it probably could be served up via Citrix (I have done so with past versions) but you will need a named user license for each person able to log on to the Citrix server.

There is another piece of software called Crystal XI Server which I believe comes free with the Developer version of Crystal XI and allows you to deliver the reports via your company intranet. It comes with 5 concurrent user license which may suit you.

It may pay to talk to a Business Objects consultant on what is available to you.

Cheers
