Running concurrent instances of Media Player

Hey there,
I have a friend of mine who has run into a problem with some configuration issues with a VB program he is trying to create.

Here's the scenario: He is looking to play a number of DVDs at the same time on a system he has put together which has a number of SCSI DVD drives. He had hoped to be able to use Windows Media player (seeing as how it's free and all) but found that he could only get one movie from a DVD to play at once. He could get multiple instances of it to open, but only one would actually play a movie at any time.

He has been wondering if it was because WMP was tying back into the video card resources (which he has only one of) and locked out any other attempts to play until the one video was finished. Is this the case, or is it something hard coded into the software that limits playing multiple movies due to system resources?

The more important question is, does anyone know a way to get around this? If WMP is not able to do this, does anyone know of any other DVD decoding software that would be able to play multiple movies at the same time?
