Running chkroot.cmd after installing Apps ?

Hi there ...
Does anyone know the effects -good/bad/nothing of running
chkroot.cmd and setting a %ROOTDRV% after installing other
apps which don't require a Compatability script ? (eg Office2K,Adobe ...)
I'm suddenly required to Install Smartsuite-9.0 and I hadn't
needed to set the chkroot.cmd setting until now.
Any suggestions helpfull
