Hello. Is there any reason why backups and other sql server tasks (that do not connect to other network machines) should not run under 'sa'?
I inherited a legacy box set up by someone else and noticed it did not back up the other day. The reason was that it was running under a domain username and the password was changed. Obviously, I want to avoid this in the future. Seems silly and obvious, but I cannot understand why they would have set it up this way in the first place.

No reason I can think of unless a company security policy made someone other than the 'sa' responsible for backups. I manage a couple of servers and use 'sa' for my scheduled backups.
