I have an 80gig hard drive and running XP Pro. Can I run SQL server on my computer so I can play with it? Or do I need a separate computer to run it. In other words will it coexist with XP pro or is it it's own OS? I have three home computers networked and I wanted to start learning how to set up servers and running programs. If not do you have another suggestion of a database server I could set up to learn and play with databases? Thank you.

You will be able to install personal edition or msde or the evaluation version.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

Dont forget about developer edition!

Its the same as a full enterprise version, but is only for development purposes. But if you want to learn, you should have everthing.
