**This was posted in the Microsoft office in error** sorry

Hi guys, I would be grateful for a little help on this one as I am not sure if it possible:

We have a VBA application that runs in Outlook (2000 & 2003). It works well using info from SQL Server and opening the relevant information by reading the SQL Generated subject line. It is a "WorkLog" application where users generate a new job, are allocated a number and then it is tracked through the Outlook VBA app.

However, when ever we make a change to the app it is a very time intensive and laborious job to update each users PC & profile with the new runtime, so my question is this:
Is it possible to have a small unchanging VBA app that 'points' to another central .otm file on a server that can run 'locally' using This Outlook Session etc.

The original app was written 3 years ago and much of the development knowledge is lost, so it is back on the learning curve for me!.

Thanks

Jonathan

can it be assigned to a public folder ?

or alternativly can it just be published to the standard forms library ?

Thanks for the prompt reply. Wow, I knew I was getting out of my depth, I am not sure what you mean.

At the moment there is a .otm file in the users mydocs\application data\microsoft\outlook folder that contains the application and forms etc, and there is also an outcmd.dat that has the toolbar buttons from which to run it. Are you saying that it may run from the public folders? In the application we take the logged on users name and compare it to a SQL table to determine what aspects of the app they can run. Would all of that still work?

Hi John

Anything published to the standard forms library will be availiable to all users of outlook. you may need to add in a outlook form as some sort of "gateway" but i believe this is a possible method

It is also possible to trap events in a public folder as well, which can be a good way of dealing with updates.

Thanks again. I googled publishing a for to a public library and got a link: that looked promising, but predictably it doesn't work for me. I cannot find how to publish a form to a public folder (tha I have created). The option in the tools menu is not there as suggested.
