Run two excel macro's at the same time 1

I have several excel macros that each run anywhere from 40 seconds to 2 minutes.
I can not get them to run at the same time. For example, I open the two workbooks that have macros in the on_open event, and one runs, and the other macros runs after the first one is completed. How can I get them to run at the same time, instead of waiting until each one is finished?
