I have read the forum with interest. I am more or less completely self taught and I have a question that I just want to check.

If I create a report on my machine that has crystal and then want to distribute it to another machine without crystal I have been Using the distribution option and exporting all dlls needed, I place them on a shared network drive

The user then runs through the setup and installs the report on their machine. Fine so far.

Questions

1. I write another report for the same user - Do I have to repeat the process? or can I give them just the rpt file.

2. To connect live to the data I have individually installed oracle client and an ODBC connection to the database. Is this the only way - not being a techie I thought that giving them the setup would enable them to connect to the database.

These questions maybe very basic - but I haven't been able to find out the answer in english.

Thanks for any help you can give

1. If they have access to the runtime engine files, and can run one compiled report using an exe, then you need to give them only 3 new files to run a new report. If the report was called NewReport.rpt, compiling it should create NewReport.exe and NewReport.crf in the same directory.

These three files should stay in the same folder and can be moved to the new PC. Running the EXE will run the report.

2. Distribution does not set up ODBC and certainly won't install the Oracle client. But once these are setup on a PC they can be used by any new report. There are ways to automate this, but not with the distribution expert. Ken Hamady

Thanks very much for your prompt response - and in English.
