We have the above software running with SQL 2000 on a windows 2003 server that is being replaced. I know I can update to something like Sage Pro 300, but don't really want to because of $$ and we really only use the basic functions of AR, AP, & GL. After doing some searching with Google I did see a post that indicated all I had to do was detach from 2000 and attach to the any new SQL. Does anybody know if this will run on any of the new SQL versions? If not we may be moving to Quick Books or something similar. We have 2-4 users. Also we have moved to Windows 7 on all of the client boxes and have not experienced any problems running Sage, has anybody had any problems with Windows 7 & Sage?

1. There are no Sage Pro users on this forum.
2. Sage Pro is a legacy product no longer supported by Sage.

FYI: For anyone else that might be interested, here is a response I received from a consultant that supports Sage accounting programs. I assume he knows what he's talking about

Pro 7.3 will run on newer SQL and newer Windows but will probably not
run on the newest SQL. The main problem is that Pro 7.3 does not
recognize SQL beyond 2005. It it did, it would probably run. There
may be a hack to get around this.

Pro 7.3 runs fine on Win 7 clients.

There is Sage Pro 2011 but that costs $$$. Sage Pro 300 is a
different product. Your client will have to learn something new.

QB is hard to beat if it fits your requirements.

You're correct, except that there is no "Sage Pro 300", it's called "Sage 300 ERP", formerly known as Accpac. Sage provides a utility to convert GL postings and open documents from Sage Pro to Sage 300.

And Sage Pro 2011 is no longer available, you have to migrate to something else.

But there is a loophole. If you buy Sage 300 ERP with a year of software assurance, Sage will give you codes to upgrade your Sage Pro 7.3 to Sage Pro 2011 as an interim upgrade step. Sage assumes you will then run their conversion utility to move the Sage Pro 2011 data to Sage 300 ERP. But you do not need to take this step as long as you have sufficient user licenses on Sage Pro 2011. You can run your Sage Pro 2011 indefinitely.

This is a viable plan if you like your Sage Pro 7.3 and want to keep it but just want to run it on a more current release of MS-SQL and MS Windows.

And then the next version of MS SQL is released, and the next version of Windows, and, and ... what then?
Face it Sage Pro is a dead end, move on.

There is an "SBT Solutions" forum here on Tek-Tips which covers The Sage Pro, ACCPAC Pro and SBT Pro product line. If you have ACCPAC Pro 6.5, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 or 7.3 and need help, that's a good place to go.

ACCPAC International bought SBT Accounting Systems in 2000 and renamed the SBT VisionPoint and Pro Series product lines to "ACCPAC VisionPoint" and "ACCPAC Pro".

Sage Software bought ACCPAC in 2004 and renamed "ACCPAC Pro ERP" to "Sage Pro ERP". VisionPoint was discontinued by ACCPAC before the Sage acquisition.
