Hi: am a beginner at PHP.
Have been using VFP9 and converted .dbc to MYsql with SQL Pass thru as backend to localhost,***,***
. . .works fine.

Wish to create web site where hoster allows using mysql which is on my machine. Several are available, but before that, would like to develop on my localhost machine.

I downloaded PHP 5.2.4-win32-installer.msi and PHP 5.2.4-win
My problem is when I install PHP thru the installer.msi I get the error:
"Error trying to access the local web service: GETOBJECT Failed. You need to manually configure the Web Server."
I went thru the help manual on PHP.net and it is all very confusing. Its the ."terms" and many choices that one has.
Any feedback on how to manually configure the web server, realizing I would like to develop on my localhost. . .and the eventually publish?
Any thread or link referral or feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you
Mike

what web server are you using? and what operating system?

Using Windows XP,Front Page, IIS6 microsoft internet server
Have tried to re-download and reinstalled using the *.msi installer, 5.1.0 Win32 binary again and it throws this:

"Error trying access the local web service: Getobject failed. You need to manually configure the web service"
Even while I am installing it.

and when I run a "Hello World.php" script it gives me a fatal error of "CLI" problem and asks me if I want to send to MS. I verified pathing and ran php.exe and the dos window for PHP opens.

It has me puzzled. Any thoughts?
Any feedback will be deeply appreciated.
(Sadly I had it working this morning for bout 10 minutes. . .and then, you know how it goes!Spent the rest of today trying to figure out what I changed to make it stop working.

don't use the msi. i've only ever had variable luck with it. install php and configure the server manually - it's dead easy to do, all the instructions are in the distro from php.net
