We will be implementing Business Objects XI in about a 3-month timeframe. We currently run Crystal Enterprise 9. I have been thinking about the possibility of keeping our Crystal Enterprise 9 server running while we simultaneously run Business Objects XI for the end users. I was thinking of keeping the Crystal Enterprise 9 environment for event-based reporting and possibly to run month-end and quarter-end reports that may typically take longer to run than other reports. I understand that I could use this server as a second APS but I'm thinking that it may make sense just to keep two separate environments. It would seem to make the transition a lot easier if I could just not have to convert all of the reporting activities over to XI.
I am wondering if this may be a common practice out there to have two different reporting environments running. I don't plan on users interacting with the Crystal Enterprise 9 environment but I may email reports from it. Just wondering what issues I could run into by doing this.
