Hi there,

I am responsible for several apps in MS Access, running on all the platforms, starting with MS Access 2.0. (!) going all the way to MS Access 2003. Most of my clients are reluctant to update. For me this is a difficult situation since my administrator only permits Access 2003 to run, so I have to investigate every problem other then Access 2003 on the client's location, this means a lot of traveling time, and a lot of time spent face to face with the enemy :). What I'd like to know is if it is possible to run a version of Access directly from USB stick, without having to install Access on the client PC?

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have not tried it, but I imagine the Access Runtime would work on a USB stick.

Create a Virtual PC (or other VM software) image with your appropriate access version (and any other tools you need or would find useful).
You can then copy this to the hard disk and run it from a PC there, shut down and delete it afterwards.

As this is free software I don't see how their management can complain too much, but I'd get approval first from their IT bods.

Hi John, thanks, I agree, they should not complain, but nonetheless they don't allow me to do this. The reason is that they wont' allow for the possibility that we run software without license....
Hi Remou, thanks . But I think the runtime won't do, I'll have to be able to edit and compile the code. So I really need the development mode.

Hi How about using a "remote control" tool such as "logmein" over the internet, to allow you to connect to and take control of users PC over the internet. Then you do not have to move from your desk. Would your IT people allow that?

Hi Ken,

Yes, as a matter of fact I'm already using Remote Desktop Control every now and than. The problem is that the pc's in the plants where the apps run are not always connected to the internet. So, unfortunately, this usually does not help me out...
