Run a report standalone without the developer app. 1

Is it possible to put a developed report on a PC, with the necessary run files, without loading Crystal Reports, or buying a license? I just need to run this one report on a desktop, alone, without the user being able to edit the desing or anything.

you can use visual basic to create a exe that does this. you need the developer edition.

One poster on this site has a program that is already made up for only 49 dollars that does what you want

If you have Version 6/7, you can use the Report Distribution Expert in the Crystal Reports Designer.

If you have Version 8, Crystal removed the feature. But you can download it from their web site. However, you must own the "Developer Edition" of Version 8 to make it work.

See faq149-277 for using compiled reports. There are also 3rd party 'viewers' that you can buy for $50 (some listed on my web site), or you can build your own viewer in VB for free. Compiled Reports are available if you download the CR8 Distribution Expert from the CD web site. That's okay for one or two reports.

For a large set of reports, one of the report viewers available out there is lot easier and more productive. And thanks Ken for listing my report viewer and viewer on your web site. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear
