Rules not working on new 5.5 installation

Hi,

Over the weekend I successfully installed 5.5 on win2k server, and all is well.

Except... Rules.

It seems that outlook rules will only work when outlook is open, and outlook cannot update the server. I've tried setting up rules with outlook2k and outlook2k3, but to no avail, it will not update the server. Basically, the boss want's to be able to forward certain mails to an external account while he's off, which we could do with the old 5.0 server.

Is there some kind of permissions option that I've missed to allow users to update the servers rules? Or is there anyway of seeing what rules users have set up on the server without using outlook?

How do you know it's not updating the server? Is it stating (client only) in Rules Wiz? You might try a new OL profile for the user. You can definately forward email to an external account without having OL running with Ex5.5 - unless you route your mail to a .pst instead of leaving it on the server.

An alternative would be to add his external account as a custom recipient and make it an alternate recipient in Delivery options on his Exchange server properties.

I am having the same problem. Exchange 5.5 is running on a W2K box and users have Outlook clients.

I have setup rules to forward one attorney's email (stored on the server and not in a .pst file) to an external address while he is out of the office for a week, and messages are not forwarded.

I would prefer not to have to create a custom recipient unless that's my only option.

Can someone tell me how to get this to work?
