All,

I'm having a problem with symantec AV not starting. I am using the corporate version (10.1). On some PCs (all XP so far), The following is in the event log on reboot:

"Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Symantec Settings Manager service to connect." (error code 7009)

The settings manager doesn't start, then as a result, the AV service doesn't start as it is a dependant of the settings manager service.

Any ideas? So far i've reinstalled the client, and used the Norton removal tool. When starting the service manually (after it has failed)... all works ok, and the client can be managed from the AV server.

Many thanks..

I am having this same issue. It happened after installing SP1 on 2003 and I forgot to stop the Symantec service.

Once it didn't start anymore, I tried an uninstall/reinstall. Now when I try the install it gets to the point where it goes through starting all the services. Then I get the error message. Here is the event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11920
Date: 9/5/2007
Time: 9:45:20 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer:
Description:
Product: Symantec AntiVirus -- Error 1920.Service Symantec AntiVirus (Symantec AntiVirus) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I know I have system rights, have checked rights locally, and I can't find anything on Google. Unfortunately, this killed one other server also in the same way 1 month ago and our solution for that was a reimage and I really don't want to do that again if possible. Any ideas?
