I am not able to make power management work properly on Windows XP Pro. running on Dell Inspiron 5160.
I have noticed that if I set the standby time to 1 or 2 minutes, the laptop goes into standby mode automatically -- as expected. But if I set the time to 5 mins. or more, the laptop fails to go into standby mode.
Through trial and error, I have discovered that the culprit is rtvscan.exe process. Looks like it prevents the computer from entering standby mode. This process is apparently the real time scanning being performed by Symantec Antivirus. If I kill this process (and its tree), then the powermangement works fine in the laptop.
I am using Symantec AntiVirus, Full version: 10.0.2.2021. I searched Symantec's website but they offer a patch only for 10.1 version.
Anybody knows how to solve this problem (except by uninstalling it )?
