Everytime I start up my computer I get this error

RTL

Unable to start driver for HPHipm11.exe (HPHipm11.exe)

I don't even know what RTL is. Not real computer smart, but I can do whatever someone explains to me. Windows XP, Dell Dimension 2300

Please provide some info on what kind of printer you have attached and how it is connected and if you have other devices on the same port fx. [wink] It might be related to USB chipset if connected to such as some Dell computers tend to suffer from some odd behaviours there. Issues are being seen also in combination with users having firewalls installed.

HP Photosmart 7550
USB cable

Have had the printer approx. 2 years
and this just started 2 months ago,
I haven't changed anything that I know of.-

My best suggestion is to re-install the driver as windows seems to report the files as missing.

!!!ATTENTION THIS IS THE FIX!!!

go into the options for ZA and stop it from loading at startup. After the system is up and running, start ZA.

That did it, thank you so much for your help. You are my hero.

Everytime I start up my computer I get this error

RTL

Unable to start driver for HPHipm11.exe (HPHipm11.exe)

I read the "Fix" by thearsenal. However, Im not sure what he means by "ZA Options", can you explain?
Thanks

I found it was the photsmart card reader trying to load on the task bar.
The ultimate solution is to have Zone Alarm trust the HPHipm11.exe.
I dont advise turning of Zone Alarm to avoid the issue for obvious reasons.
I had the problem and the fi is very simple.
1. Right click Zone Alarm and select'Restore Zone Alarm Control Center' on your task bar.
2. Go to Program Control on the left column and clik the "Programs" tab.
3. At the bottom right corner click th "ADD" button and navigate to the C:\WINNT\system32 folder and double click the "HPHipm11" file. This will add "PML Driver" to the programs list of Zone Alarm.
4. Finally click the Programs column tile to place the list in aphabetical order and left click the question mark under the Acess - Trusted colmn and select "ALLOW"

5. Reboot to test.

It worked for me and I'm sure it will solve your problem.

Thanks to TheRedEye, followed your directions exactly, but I still get the same error message each time I boot. The PML Driver is now added to the Programs List of Zone Alarm, and there is a check mark under the Access-Trusted column next to it (to allow it), but the error message still shows up when I boot the computer. I appreciate your help, do you have any other suggestions?

I tried it too and received the same outcome as saddlesore.
It did not fix the problem. I just boot my computer and then turn on the za, it works fine that way. Wish there was a way to fix it to where i could boot with za on at start up.

Sorry, I jumped the gun. After further testing it turns out to be the other hphipm11. You must add this one and set it to Trusted and Internet under the Access column.
Here is thel ocation of the file to add and Zone Alarm info:

Product name HP PML
File name C:\Program Files\HP Photosmart 11\hphinstall\w2kio\hphipm11.exe
Policy Manually configured
Last policy update Not applicable
Version 4, 5, 0, 770
Created date 11/22/2002 12:49:22
File size 76 KB

I removed the entry for the file in the System 32 folder from Zone alarm leaving just the one above and rebooted several times without incident.

I hope I have redeemed myself as this is my first time ever trying to help on a forum.

I'm really sorry but I'm getting mixed results so I'm doing more research. Don't bother with the PML entries because it does not work.
HP PML Driver for HP’s Photosmart printers. PML stands for Printer Management Language and is an object-oriented request-reply printer management protocol where each PML object is associated with a unique piece of printer information while the PML commands specify the way the objects are accessed. From a layman’s perspective all you need to know is that PML is one of many printer control languages and it is the one used by your HP Photosmart printer (on account of the fact that it is better suited for the handling of digital imaging objects).

Recommendation :
Essential for the full functioning of your HP Photosmart printer – Leave alone.

Memories Disk Update version 1.0.4.806 seems to fix it.

Just open your Memories Disc program and click the About button on the bottom left and select Update. Run or save it and run it later.
I reboot 3 times before I wrote this one!

Saddlesore - Memories Disk is a program that came with the HP software.
It creates a CD of photos you select and rusn them in a slide show with music of your choice.

Solution to RTL error will be posted shortly after a few days.
It's been 2 days and over 15 reboots without incident.
I'm imbarrased to say that I was fooled in the past bye the error coming back. But I think I really got the answer this time. HP will not say's there is not problem and it's ZA's responsibility from what I've read on other sites. However reading HP's explination led my troubleshooting in the right direction.

RTL error HPHipm11.exe fix for Photosmart and ZoneAlarm conflict.

Try this solution:
Reassign the drive letter used by your printer's card reader.

Instructions for W2K and XP:

>>>Make sure printer has no media in any of the slots.<<<

1. Open Computer Management Console and select Disk Management under the Storage tree. (see tip)
2. Right click the Disk (removable) to be changed in the lower right section of the console and select Change Drive Letter and Path…
With the removable drive letter highlighted click edit
3. Select a new letter from the drop down menu and click OK.
I changed mine from "F:" from "P:"

I have read many threads looking for the solution and would like to give credit those who have contacted both HP and ZA in particular FiberNut who in March 2004 contacted HP and got the explanation which led me to this work around.

Tip: Open the Computer Management console quickly!
Click Start>Run and type compmgmt.msc in the text box.
Click OK.

It’s been 4 days and over 20 reboots without incident!

Hi TheRedEye,
I've learned more in the past hour trying to fix this than I probably ever would have. I'm still getting the error message. I have tried all of your suggestions.
Got anything else?? I'm stuck.
I have noticed that the pop up only started when I updated my ZA.

Another place to modify is the 'PML Driver HP11' service. When you boot your computer the service starts automatically and it does not need to start untill you need it.
Go to Start>Run and type "Services.msc" in the "Open" box.
Locate the PML Driver HP11 on the list of services.
Double click on it to open it and change it from "Automatic" to "Disabled".
Reboot the computer.
If the error does not appear go back and change the "PML Driver HP11 service" to "Manual" and it will not start untill needed.
