Hi

I am looking for a RTF converter to convert to WordPerfectDocuments. Or evenbetter a tool to keep my documents uniform in WordPerfect and Microsoft word especially when working with styles.

I know this is a tall order but I am sure the answer is out there.

Thanks

Nikka

You don't mention the version. All of the more recent versions have built in converters. Simply use the Save AS command and roll down the File Type to Rich Text Format. Bingo. Instant conversion.

Alternately, if you do not have a new enough version to offer this (and I think it goes at least back to 7) you can right click on the document and choose "open with" from the menu, then Microsoft Word, from which you can convert effortlessly to RTF. Word will convert almost anything but PDF files.

If that's not enough, check for converters on the Corel Web site, or better yet, check your installation disk for converters (there are a couple). (the term may be conversion files) If you have both Word and WP, the easiest thing is to convert in Word, since you can pick up almost a complete set of conversion tools on the MS web site.

I have WordPerfect 2002/11 and it will both open .rtf files and save as .rtf files. It will also open Word .doc files and save as Word .doc files, doesn't say with version. I use "Open as a Copy" so as to preserve the original file. Some formatting may be lost due to the difference in how the programs work but usually is minor unless the file is complex.

I have Microsoft Word XP and recently installed service pack three.

Now, when I try to save a file in WordPerfect 5.0 format, I get the message: "Word cannot save WordPerfect 5.x for Windows files. The converter for this format can only open files."

I reinstalled the WP 5.x converter and it still does not work.

What else do y'all need to know about this problem?

Any suggestions?

judgehopkins, I just was in Word 2003 and in the Open File list it shows WordPerfect 5.x [*.doc] as a file type. That certainly 'ain't' right, WP didn't use the extension .doc as a default, only .wpd for documents [graphics were .wpg]. It does show .wpd, .doc for WP 6 files, might try that.

Or make a copy of a WP file and name it with the .doc extension and see it that opens in Word.

I just tried it with a file from 1993 with no extension and when double-clicked it opened in WordPerfect.

I made a copy and gave it the extension of .doc and it opened in Word 2003. [I know, that's an old file but it is part of a backup I haven't thrown out yet.]

Thanks.

I was doing all that (what you said). I wasn't having any trouble at all till I installed service pack 3.

Now, the converters do not work. Any suggestions?
