I have a cron task using rsync to backup a folder to another drive...

Someone in the office deleted a file from the source folder inadvertently...

I logged in via SSH but I get a permission denied when trying to access the backup.... Seems permissions aren't preserved in the backup?

I don't seem to remember this being an issue from the Ubuntu desktop GUI...

TIA...

What rsync options are you using to create the backup? To preserve ownership and permissions you need to include the -o and -p options (or another option that automatically includes them, such as -a for example).

What are the source and destination filesystem types?
