We have 2 CCMS (6.0) sites with CCMA. We are in the process of turning on multicast across our network and both CCMS have the same RSM IP address (the default that Nortel loads). The send IP address in the RTR data send IP addresses are different. Is there any issues with having the same RSM IP address in 2 CCMs or do we need to change 1. If so, what is the best way to change?

Thanks

Excellent question. As it has not really come up as an issue with the networked sites we have worked on, I have to believe it is not an issue that the CCMS are sending out real time data on the same RSM IP.

Please follow up with a status of this issue.

Just allow multicast on the LAN and not the WAN and you should be fine. In other words have it blocked at the router leaving the site.

We have a number of CCMS servers but only 2 CCMA servers. Half of the CCMS servers use one multicast "send" address and half use another "send" address. One CCMA is configured to have one of those addresses as its "receive" address, one uses the other. Each CCMA server has a different "send" address.

If you look at the multicast stream, you can see the hostname of each CCMS server embedded within it, so the CCMA server knows which stream belongs to which CCMS server.

CCMA has only one field for Multicast Receive IP, which means that all CCMS servers have to use same RSM IP Address group. This is totally fine as CCMA will distinguish multicast based on CCMS host names. This is the reason why correctly configured DNS is very iportant for RTDs to function
