I have 3 Unix systems A , B on Lan/wan..
I could do rlogin/rcp/rsh from B to A. while if i do the same from A and B.i get message permission denied..

I have checked the passwd files in both systems to see "root" user exists.

i have included the host names in both .rhosts and hosts.equiv files in both the systems with root user id.

ex:Files has the follwoing info
.rhosts and hosts.equiv in "A"
B root

.rhosts and hosts.equiv in "B"
A root

i could ping A from B and viceversa..

what cold be the problem...?
please respond soon..

hi ,

some things to check

is your .rhosts under root
whats the permissions of .rhosts i.e. 600 on both machines
do both hosts A & B exist in the hosts file on both machines.

Yes.Perm are set to 600 for .rhosts on both systems.
Both A & B are in hosts file in both systems

you might want to check how each of the systems is resolving the others name <-> ip.

I have seen the situation where
A resolves B as B
but
B resolves A as A.domain.com
which doesn't match in the .rhosts/hosts.equiv files.
