Is it normal for an RS6000(S85), Aix4.3.3.9, Hacmp4.4 to lose time ie about 30 secs over 3 days?

The customer does not have a master time server on the network.

The installation is in South Africa, we are using the
USAST-2 (cut +2) time zone.

Any replies appreciated.

Found timed running on the servers without a master time
server on the network. I think this was the problem. Have
asked customer to nominate time server and will then use cron on servers to run ntpdate "ip address of time server"
to sync time at regular intervals. thanks for reply

np... i think the prefered daemon is xntpd, but I have only worked on ours once. Whatever works, I say.

I had a CPU that was loosing time & it took a while for us to track it down. It was on an E30. I finally utilized Software support & they determined it was the Wrong CPU Clock was on the board the IBM FE had swapped out. It took alot of finger pointing between hardware & software before this 1 got resolved. I would look into the CPU Board going on you possibly. It turned out the Clock on the CPU Board was for a differant machine! Hope this helps!

If there's anything IBM Software and IBM Hardware like to do, it's play hot potato. Sometimes the potato gets lost between the two systems. I'm glad everything worked out for you.
