Hi,

I just bought a RS/6000 150 on ebay so I can learn AIX. When I boot the system, I get the white IBM screen while the hardware initializes. Then the screen goes black after the bios says it's shutting stdin and stdout. About 15 minutes later the monitor clicks back on and all I get is a blank black screen with a solid green cursor in the upper left hand corner. The keyboard doesn't seem to be working at all, even the num, caps and scroll lock keys won't activate the LED's. Is there something I'm not doing right here? Thanks in advance.

Howard

The console is probably on the serial port. Get a null modem cable and plug it into you PC and see if you get anything.

If you boot from an install CD it show allow you to choose which device to use as console.

Cheers

hi,
when the icons appear, wait for keyb one and press F1
(seems that you have a graphic adapter/monitor) and navigate
in SMS menu, looking for boot sequence setting.
When found it, verify and set for Disk precedence.
Looking also at configuration, take note of your devices.

I belive your HW is ok, but not a valid OS is installed.

Get (where?) a 433 AIX CD set (4 CDs) and from the same
menu, choose the "Install From" icon and make a fresh
install of AIX.

bye
