RRAS playing up

I am trying to set up a VPN server, and working through the Microsoft explaination works fine. However when I then try and start the RRAS service, I get the error "Dependancy Service Failed". I am only running on W2K Server SP1 so I thought I would install SP2 and try again. When I try and install SP2 I get a "RPC is unavailable" error. Has anyone encountered these problems before, or should I just reinstall the server first as last?
