When I do a rpm -qa kernel I get two kernel outputs 2.4.18-14 and 2.4.20-18.8
I went to /boot/grub/grub.conf and commented out all reference to the older kernel then moved all 2.4.18-14 to 2.4.18-14.old but when I still do a rpm -qa kernel I still get the reference to the old kernel. Where is rpm getting it's infomation?

RPM gets its information fom its database that is updated when packages are installed, updated or erased (deleted/removed) if you have a package you no longer need you "can if the system does not require it any longer) do a rpm -e <packagename> so in your case rpm -e kernel-2.4.18-14

Be warned there may be dependents so this may fail.

You would be best to read: man rpm

Good Luck,
Laurie.
