I have an avast install that seemed to work, but when I looked at it today, the service was stopped. When I tried to start it I get :
"Error 1075: Thye dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion"
The only dependency is RPC - and I DEF wouldn't want to delete that.
Anyway, the (production!!) server has been rebooted a couple of times, but to no avail.

My question is:
Where is the service marked for deletion, and how/can I change that?
thanks in advance

Have a look at HKLM, System, CurrentControlSet, Services
Avast DependOnService you could remove it there, just not sure what effect this could have.

Hi and thanks for replying GrimR.

I know where to find and remove the dependency - what worries me is the possibility that the RPC service may be marked for deletion. I want to find out where/how a service is marked for deletion, and can I alter that flag?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
