The requirements for rpc over http are:

Exchange 2003
Windows 2003
Outlook 2003 on XP SP1 or later
Global Catalog on Windows 2003

Doesn't that last requirement imply that you have to have a Windows 2003 AD? So I couldn't setup rpc over http on my Windows 2000 AD even though I have Exchange 2003.

Thanks.

Exactly right. To have a 2003 GC you need a 2003 DC which will upgrade your domain to AD 2.0. You can still have windows 2000 DC's in your domain you just need 1 2003 GC.

windows 2003 gc but afaik you can use windows 2000 level domain.

Further clarification for you as I have done a few support calls with Microsoft on this subject. ALL Globabl Catalog servers need to have RPC over HTTP enabled, so all of your GC need to be Windows 2003.

Additionally, it should be specifically specified that Exchange 2003 has to be running on Windows 2003 for the same reason.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
