I am running a system at 4.3.3 with ml 8 installed. I'm having a few strange problems starting rpc.mountd. After issuing startsrc -s rpc.mountd the system tells me the pid of the process. However the process dies as soon as its started. When I do a lssrc -g nfs I get the following:

biod nfs 9032 active
nfsd nfs 9296 active
rpc.statd nfs 9566 active
rpc.lockd nfs 9814 active
biod nfs inoperative
nfsd nfs inoperative
rpc.statd nfs inoperative
rpc.lockd nfs inoperative
rpc.mountd nfs inoperative

Any thoughts?

I've the same problem but only my rpc.mountd refuse to be active:
Log of lssrc -g nfs
Sous-système Groupe PID Etat
biod nfs 8000 actif
nfsd nfs 7746 actif
rpc.statd nfs 8532 actif
rpc.lockd nfs 8270 actif
rpc.mountd nfs inopérant

It seems I have duplicate entries for some of the nfs services which I'm quite proud of. Not sure how they got there or how to rid of.

After logging this problem with IBM it turned out that the problem was being caused by the lack of /etc/netsvc.conf file. As soon as I added this rpc.mountd started straight away.
