RPC failures over VPN link

Can someone tell me if I am looking in the right direction.

We have 2 sites the remote site is a child domain of our main site.
bridgehead servers at either end on Win2k3 server both sp1.
about every 24-48hrs we get problems with RPC, replication etc and then KCC errors and we have to restart the child server.
We didn't get this problem at first, might have been since install of sp1 but not sure.

From my searching around it seems to point to MTU and the VPN. some articals say change servers, or all nodes or others just the routers.

Has anyone had this problem? can anyone verify I am looking at the right thing?

if you enconter RPC endpoint failutre, it is port 135 not open.

I have checked but port 135 is not blocked.
