Hi

I have a windows server environment (w2k) all running on networker 6.13. The only client in DMZ (behind) firewall can't be backed up anymore since some days.

Unsuccessfull savesets:
*client1: All 1 retry attempted
*client1: All nsrexec: authtype nsrexec
*client1: All savefs: RPC error: Unable to receive
*client1: All savefs: cannot retrieve client resources
savefs client1: failed

I configured the following ports to use:
Service Ports: 7037+ 7938
Connection Ports: 10201-10300
Then restarted networker on both sides

from Backupserver>rpcinfo -p client1
program vers proto port
100000 2 tcp 7938
100000 2 udp 7938
390113 1 tcp 7937
program vers proto port
100000 2 tcp 7938
100000 2 udp 7938
390113 1 tcp 7937

from client1> rpcinfo -p backupserver
program vers proto port
100000 2 tcp 7938
100000 2 udp 7938
390113 1 tcp 7937
390103 2 tcp 8394
390109 2 tcp 8394
390110 1 tcp 8394
390103 2 udp 8395
390109 2 udp 8395
390110 1 udp 8395
390107 5 tcp 8430
390107 6 tcp 8430
390105 5 tcp 8437
390105 6 tcp 8437
390104 105 tcp 8525
390104 205 tcp 8531
390104 505 tcp 8538
390104 805 tcp 8544
390104 1105 tcp 8551
390104 1405 tcp 8558
390104 1705 tcp 8564
rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: Remote system error - Connection timed out

from client1 and backupserver i can "telnet backupserver 7937".
From client1 and backupserver i can't "telnet backupserver 10201":
Connecting To backupserver...Could not open a connection to host on port 10201 : Connect failed

Checking the firewall showed that all ports from backupserver to client1 are open and all ports >1023 from client1 to backupserver are open too!

Any ideas?

This points to a name resolution problem. However, it could also be portmapper problem.

Which type of client is this? Windows XP/SP1? If so, there is a utility to reconfigure the client's firewall. Please have a look in the Tech Bulletins you will find on the web.

Client is w2k Server SP4.
After restarting networker on server and on client now backup works again.

But if I try to open the nwadmin or the recover GUI from the client I get:
recover: Cannot start session with server backupserver: Unable to receive

Any ideas?

FYI: I encounter this error lately and I found out that problem mounting the neccessary volume will result in this error. When i fixed the device/pools problem, the error was gone.

On a Windows machines, Select "start / programs / Legato Networker / Networker User" and do a right click on "Networker User" select "properties" you need to add "-s backup_server" on the "target" line at the end of the line. This will tell your client on which server to connect to.

"C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\bin\winworkr.exe" -s backup_server_name
