We have a new Exchange server. When I shutdown the old server 10-12 users out of 450 have problems with outlook. It freezes up or works very slow as if there is a RPC problem. There are no common threads that I can find between those users. I have never had trouble yet someone else with the same setup does.

RPC seems to be connecting to our older exchange server and I can see this through server manager and netstat. They also connect to the new Exchange server. RPC locator is running on all servers as is the service of course. Nothing in the registry to indicate otherwise. This only occurs when outlook is opened. When it is closed so are the sessions on the old exchange server. Why are these 10-12 users communicating with the old exchange server when opening outlook? I need to use this server somewhere else.

Thanks, it is driving me nuts.
Vince.

Make sure the mailboxes are moved and that when you check name against the new server that it does underline the exchange server as the new one. Then delete the old one from the site. Dan

This may be a problem with the organisation forms, I am currently bringing up a new server. Public Folder replication was done but no mailboxes had been moved and we started getting the same symptoms. Some clients would hang for 5-8 mins then respond Ok. checking RPC showed connection to new server. The only (nearly) common thread we eventually found was that a few users (though not all these were affected) had messages from the current server in a folder eg; AV updates, NDR messages etc and any new NDR,s caused the the same problems. Just to confuse the issue one user without these messages had problems as well.
Moving the Organization Forms between servers cured the problem instantly. When we stepped back and did a Post Mortem the problem started 2 days? after changing display names of the Organization Forms library on one server.

See if this fits\cures your problem

We have been using the new server for 4 months now and everything worked fine until I shutdown the old server. In fact, all services dealing with Exchange were stopped on the old server. Eveyone has the correct server name and can use e-mail with no problems, well I would like to think so anyway. I will check on the organization forms. I never thought about checking that although we, to my knowledge, are not using them.

Thanks,
Vince.
