Heres the problem. I have 8 interfaces on my SuSe 9.2 server. 5 of them are default routes for seperate networks.

eth0 192.168.7.1
eth1 192.168.8.1
eth2 192.168.1.1
eth3 192.168.2.1
eth4 192.168.3.1

I am able to ping the gateway from the machine that is attached to the specific network (from 192.168.1.12 "ping 192.168.1.1"). When I try to ping a different network or even the network gateway, I am unable to get a response (from 192.168.1.12 "ping 192.168.8.1").

I have not tweaked the routing table at all. It still has the auto-populated entries for the the devices that are installed.

Anyway, what is it that I am missing.

Thanks in advance for all of you help!

Jason

What subnet mask are you using on each 'network'? If you're using a 24-bit mask (255.255.255.0) everywhere and have not set up a routing table, then this is expected behavior.

You will need to set up iptables to forward packages between subnets. Being a linux novice, I'll leave it up to the other members of this forum to help you with that.

Have you enabled IP_forwarding?

if not

echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

Cheers
