routing unused DN's

I have a DID block of 100 numbers but only using 90. If someone dials an unassigned DN they get an invalid extension message or reorder tone from the outside.

Is there a way to route the unused DNs to a central answering point? We want the receptionist to answer the calls.

Create a Translation Pattern. If you have 7900 to 7999 for DID's, Create a Translation Pattern of 79XX and then translate the numbers to your receptionists DN. Longest match will send the used DN's to the right phone and un-ised DN's to the receptionist.

Still a problem.. The MCI network is returning and intercept message the the DID is not in service although the call is coming into the gateway. Any ideas? Does CM talk back on the d-channel of the PRI to force MCI to return this message?

post the translation pattern you created if you can

im doing this an it works...i have a translation for unused DN's in my DID ranges to all point to "0" and/or "xxxx" my receptionist DN's

Here is what I was instructed along with Pndscm's post. 1800 is the DN I want all unassigned calls to go.

To create a catch all
Add a "Translation Pattern"
In the " Translation Pattern" box add in the pattern Example if you dial-plan has numbers 1820 - 1899 use 18[2-9]X Enter in the "Partition"
Enter the "Calling Search Space"
Select " Route this Pattern"

Under "Called Party Transformations" at the bottom Discard Digits "NoDigits"
Called Party Transform Mask is 1800

This should match any DN that is not defined. So let's say that you have a phone with 1829, this is more specific match so this Translation Pattern will not match it. But you have a number not being used like 1830 this will not be defined and the pattern 18[2-9]X will be the most specific match. This will then "Transform" the call to 1800.

is your carrier definitely sending you only the 4 digit DID? and do these D

if so test with one single did number that you want to do this with. make a trans pattern for this number and make the called party transform mask the attendand DN. See if this one number works

i have my inernal partition and unlimited CSS specified
