Hi,

I have a small 15 user network running SBS2000 with exchange server and I have been given the task of setting up two Blackberry 8700's to enable access to the user's corporate email.

Unfortunately there is no budget to allow for a dedicated BES server & software but I have been advised that as a bit of a cheat corporate emails can be forwarded from the exchange server to the BIS email. Can anyone advise me as to which settings in exchange server need to be amended (I'm not sure where the routing facility is in exchange!)

All help gratefully received!

Many thanks.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but each individual blackberry user now gets their own email address that corresponds to their service provider. If you create a contact in A.D. using this email address, you can set the user's exchange properties to forward all inbound messages to that external contact. In addition, you can set up the blackberry user's web mail client to reply using your corporate email address.

That's great... it's exactly what I've been told can be done! I've already set the user's email address for their service provider (in this case Vodafone) but my only problem - and apologies for my ignorance - is that I'm not sure where within the user's exchange properties I set the forwarding rule.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Much appreciate your help.

AD User and Computers, make sure you're viewing Advanced Features. Go to the Exchange General tab on the user account, then into the Delivery Options area. You set it up in the Forwarding address field.

No budget? Can you stretch to £60 for an additional license?

BES is free for 1 user and then you purchase an additional license;

I have 2 users and I had an old PC sat around so I stuck the BES server on, its really simple to use and yes this is the FULL version that costs £800 but it is limited to a maximum of 15 users.

Mr Blackberry please send comission to...... :)

Regards,
Iain

Thanks Iain... yep, that's not so expensive, however they're looking to roll this out to maybe ten users so I'll have to see what the boss says! However, since your last post I've actually got the forwarding to work so maybe I can save the company some money for the time being!

10 more users will be a total of £600 - less your negotiation discount for 10 CAL's - and when you consider my carrier currently charge us £32.99 per month per user you soon see that the total cost of the server is 2* months of Blackberry subscription.

This is for centralised management, automatic software deployment, if someone nicks your BB you send it a disable command and its well disabled.
Automatic updates for Address books, policies etc.

Download it and have a look it is free.....

Good Luck,

Iain

P.S. If you're Exchange 2k3 SP2 watch out for the changes in the Send As rights, but therees KB article on that.
