Router to Hub Troubles

I have a NetGear RT314 router and a hub at my house and when I connect the hub to the router, none of the comps on the hub can communicate with the comps on the router. I have a crossover cable connecting them but it is still not working. Did I make the crossover cable correctly? How is that done?

See if the LED's on your ports are lit. If not, your cable is likely
bad. If you don't know how to make it, I suggest you buy 1.
