Router problems

Just installed Linksys EtherFast® Cable/DSL Router BEFSR41

to my DSL westell wirespeed modem,just have one PC on now, but to plan add mac 8500/120


But cannot get into some of my mail sites,yahoo & just other forums ,while some are easy to enter ?

I don’t have security enabled,also shut off zone alarm, but still slow or wont open ,is the firewall or router need further configuration?

why are some sites easily accesable others not?

Couple things to check/provide more info

1. Are you DHCP or static IP?
If you use static IP, make sure the DNS addresses are correct
If DHCP, make sure you have NOT filled in DNS addresses.
2. Can you ping asite by IP address?
Open a command/dos prompt and type
"ping 64.58.76.176" without the quotes
and see if you get a reply.
3. Can you ping a site by name
Open a command/dos prompt and type
"ping

http://www.yahoo.com"

without the quotes
and see if you get a reply.

If you can't ping using either method, there is something blocking it in your firewall/router.
If you can ping by IP but not name, the DNS is bad.
If both ping methods are OK but you still can not browse, there is something wrong in your browser settings or the firewall is blocking it.

I have seen this on a few PC's. If you are running norton Anti-virus, disable the Email scanning. That will at times freeup the connection so you can get the emails to sail through. It is a proglem with the router setup that I havent found the cure for yet, but this is a work around. I wouldnt recomend keeping the email scan off for a long time though.

Also, you said that you disabled your Zone alarm. Sometimes, you need to lower the settings before you disable the firewall. The program can retain the settings, be disabled, and still limit access to the internet.

If you're using PPPoE with your DSL connection, you might want to confirm that the MTU is set at 1492 (or lower).
