*Newbie alert* :)

i am setting up a network at home, i have 4-5 computers, and rotate them fairly frequently. I have set up a server (old poweredge 2300) and am using win adv ser 2000. The plan is to have the server run as web/email/game server.

I have active directory installed. Should i use DHCP from the router to assign ip's to local machines, or the server. if i use the server, do i need to turn off the router DHCP? Which is better? what are the advantages of each?

thanks in advance!!!

I prefer to run DHCP from the server and not the Router if possible. Use the windows utility to manage DHCP for it is easier and better than that on any router. IF you do use the SERVER for DHCP you need to DISABLE DHCP on the Router. Just MAKE sure you give your router and server a Static IP address.
