router on xp home network

just installed a d-link di-604 and set up a home network

3 to as much as 5 times a day I lose the internet connection through the router /the local network stays working/if i bypass the routerI get a internet connection/
power the router up and down a few times and i get the connection back.

What version of firmware are you using? Try upgrading to the latest version here:

goddy we had the very same experience with a Kobian router,regularly losing the ip address, it claiming it could not renew the IP address when the lease expired, changing the WAN Mac, reverting the time zone to Canada.
We upgraded the firmware and it made it even worse. We bought a Linksys and everything has worked without a hitch since
