I have a linsys router wrt54G ver.2 with current firmware. About a month ago the router would start dropping client connections to the internet every other day or so. I am unable to get internet from any machine on the network however when i use the ping utility on the router admin interface it can get to the outside world just fine. It seems to happen around the time the isp hands out a new lease. i have been through the config about a hundred times now and can't figure it out. the only thing that cures it is resetting the router which is getting very old. any thoughts?

Change the DNS settings on your router to some open dns servers and see if it makes a difference. You already said you can ping, but you didn't say whether you were pinging by name or ip address.

Try pinging from the workstations by name and ip address to something like google.com

You might want to activate the logging feature of the router, depending if it is functional on your firmware. It might reveal something interesting. The DNS could be the issue. That is why I never use the ISP's DNS, I usually use the Level 3 DNS servers on 4.2.2.1 thru 4.2.2.9, and I set it in the router that way all DHCP devices get the same thing.
