Hi all, I have a friend that her wireless keeps dropping, and in the wireless network panel, the SSId for the router keeps disappearing...
when she brings it to work (her notebook and wireless router), I see the router with no issues, and can connect fine. As sson as she gets home and plugs everything in, and she can be right next to the router, she cannot connect to it at all.
I have suggested that maybe a neighbor just got some new 2.4 Ghz wireless camera's and is probably causing interference... (only thing I can think of, sine when I got one of those, it made my Netgear router start doing endless re-boots)
Any ideas on how to try to minimize the interference in her home?

Thanks

Try changing the router's WiFi channel - you've usually got 13 different ones to play with.

Does she have a cordless phone? These often use 2.4GHz, as do microwave ovens. If possible, try moving the router to a different location within her home.

You could also tell the router to use G mode only instead of the mixed mode (by default) setting. Sometimes this helps prevent interference drops, especially when the wireless accounts are encrypted.

Her card is, most likely, G anyway.

Thanks guys,, I had her try to change the channel,, she states that it only has a "auto" option.. (I forgot to look at it when I had it at work)
It is a wireless "N" router, I don't know what she has for an adaptor,, it is in a new Dell notebook.
She also changed her cordless phone from 2.5ghx to the new Dect6...
I never though of the microwave though,,
I am going to have her bring in the notebook and router tomorrow so I can go through the settings again...
