I have 5 static ip addresses. One I have connected up to a linksys router and a bunch of computers (with dynamic addresses). Two other static ip addresses are used by two web servers directly on the Internet. 2 are not used.

The servers are connected BEFORE the router. Both the servers and the lan work fine but they can't see each other.

How can I see the servers from the lan and vice-versa?

This can probably be worked out, but I would put the servers on the lan with everything else, and then port forward what you need to the 2 servers to get them running, if possible.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Can you access the two servers that are connected prior to the Linksys router on a regular internet connection using their IP?

If not, there is an issue with your connection, and the ISP should be notified. You need a pure bridge connection from the modem to a switch, prior to the router for these connections.

If the issue is that the LAN workstations behind the router cannot access them using their IP, it is a DNS issue. A lot of ISPs will not forward packets from one ISP block to another. Call your ISP. Or use Matt's suggestion above, and place both Web sites behind the router and forward requests to their NAT IPs. This would involve the use of different port assignments.

I suspect your front end equipment needs to be improved if your are going to use at least 3 of the 5 external IPs given you by your ISP.

I would hope to see -->internet -->VLAN capable switch-->firewall appliance -->linksys router

Greg,

I Offer a slightly different solution.
I don't know if you are forwarding any ports on your router, if you are not...

I would suggest getting another router and then putting each server behind a router each and then forward the appropriate ports to each. Then get a second NIC for each web server and multi-home them by having each NIC have a presence on both networks. I don't know the usage of your web servers, but it is possible that if you ar using each for different purposes then you may be able to get away without the multi-homing and just use one router.

Hope this helps,

Erik
