hi all, am struggling to chain/add my wireless router to my
current wired setup. basically i want my default setup to be wired, and when i want wireless to switch on my wireless router, which i have connected on a lan port of my wired router. after much fiddling/reboots etc i can get wireless,
but only with open access, and router web access is blocked.

my wired router is a sweex lb000021, and the wireless router is a sweex lw904. i am using a dell vostro 1500 lap with vista home basic. .

does anyone have help/links to running wireless chained to wired router.

i would like help with web browser settings eg dhcp server off. the sweex menu allows security settings wp2 etc. but the problem seems to be a mismatch with vista settings.

any help would be appreciated.

I do something similar and basically put the wireless router into access point mode. In this mode it excludes the need for login names and passwords for the internet and allows you to set encryption as you see fit. It works well for me. I dont know the routers you state but would be suprised if they dont support a similar function. As a side note what connection do you use from the router to the wireless router - RJ45 or a RJ11 (smaller ADSL type)

hi arcuser,

have now managed to chain my wireless router to my
current wired setup. problems with firefox/ie7. managed to
set security and with dhcp server set off i have the setup i require.

due to above i cannot get wired access if i attach the wireless router direct to cable modem. so if my wired router fails, will have to reset wireless router and start again. repeat booting of modem, routers & pc is tiring,
reminds of the good old w95/98 days.

n.b. i use standard cat 5 patch ethernet cables.
