route add /p not working....

Hi,

have added a gateway using route add which works fine
but i want it to be persistent so add /P at the end
which does not work...have done this many times
but in this instance does not - ne ideas welcome
user machine win98

...err have found out permanent does not work on 98 -
am sure have done it before gonna add it to the logon script
