Hello,

I am wondering if and how I could configure a router to route the same port to 2 different computers on my network.

I would like to allow 2 different computers 'Remote Desktop' (winXP)...so therefore I have to open 3389 and send that to to different machines.

Can it be done?

Thanks,

Sylvain

Yep. Or remote desktop to one machine and then use it to remote desktop to others behind the router.

Hmmm...I wonder many we could daisy chain.

are you trying to connect inward to these PCs or outwards ?
there is only one 3389 port so you cant route to 2 pcs inward but most routers allow internal negotiation ie if you start the RDC from behind the NAT it will allow connection multiple times without configuration.

I have tried to change the port of one machine to 3390 and left the other at 3389..and by that I mean changed in the XP regestry as outlined in knowledge base web page article 306759

i can connect to the default one, but I can not connect to the 3390 one...when I try I use ***.***.***.***:3390....I have configuered my router to listen to both port and send to the proper ineternal IP...no luck...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Sylvain

On some routers, (some linksys models come to mind), even if the port forward entries are made in the router setup, a soft reset of the router is required for them to become active.

You might consider a router firmware upgrade.

Hi dixxy

How is going with the port changes.

I just read the sequens of E-mail: the Idea of the firmware update is very importatnt.
Just one more thing: when you try to connect to the clinet
trouht port 3390 what strean did you type on the connection window?

Could be: ipaddress( of the host):3390
example: 215.198.100.155:3390
I am new in this technology but Ihad this problem and a friend point this to me and works for W2000 server.

tecan,

My router is a Gnet Internet Gateway,I know oabout the restart when u change the configurations, I am also aware about firmware upgrade though I have not performed one in a while (I will check to see if one is available)...I also did tyoe in the ip address ***.***.***.***:3390

I typed that in the remote desktop window of WinXp...and I get no response from the client....

Thanks,

Sylvain

Try a remote desktop connection from within the lan to see if its a problem with the router or the client configuration.

Dixxy, which IP are you using to connect to the PC you want to RDP the Internal or external(Gateway)address? Also, have you tried other applications telnet, ftp etc to access the PC? Try opening up your gateway so that you can trace-route to it, confirm that your getting to it.

good luck.

some isp are blocking ports now ie 139 ,25 and 3389 to reduce the effects of those nassy little viri writers on there dhcp products
