Hi - I'm using Illustrator 8.0 and would like to know if there is any way to edit the corner radius of an existing rectangle. I know how to change the corner radius while drawing (using the rounded rectangle tool), but how can I change the corner radius of an existing one?? Hope this make sense....

select the rounded rectangle tool and just click once without dragging anywhere in your doc. It will bring up a dialoge asking you what size to make the square and the corners.
HINT: If you drag out a rectangle about the width and height you want it, then delete it, then click once, the size of the last rectangle you built will be preset for you.
Also works with all the circle and square tools. :)

Thanks jaQUAN. I should have been more specific. I know how to use the dialog box for that tool to specify exact dimensions. However, once that has already been created, is there any way to then change the radius of the corners (without drawing a new rectangle). Just like changing existing dimensions for say a regular rectangle using the Transform pallete. I often work on existing artwork that requires modifications to things such as the corner radius. Just want to know if there is a quick way to click on that existing rectangle and view/change the corner dimensions. This artwork is very technical and has to be precise (like to the .0001).

Im afraid only v9.0 and up supports Rounded Corners as a "live" effect so you can edit on the fly. Best you can do for now is to insert the dimensions of the existing rectangle into your new rounded rectangle dialog. Then insert the X and Y coords. of the existing rectangle into the X any Y coords. of the new one. :)

I totally sympathize with your rounded corner dilemma, but even with Illustrator 10 I have not been able to find an (easy) way to either edit or remove an existing rounded corner on a rectangle. Seems the Adobe engineers were taking a vacation when that feature was added to Illustrator. Personally, I believe Freehand is a far superior product, but unfortunately not the "industry standard". Good luck.

Try using the meathod I meantioned for AI9 users michael. And with freehands inferior spooling, masking and PS support its hard to say one feature makes an app better. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!

Creating a 3-D Pie Chart

I am trying to recreate a 3-D pie chart like the ones generated in Excel. I can create a pie chart in Illustrator, but it's not 3-D, it's just a flat circle. I tried cutting and pasting the pie chart from Excel to Illustrator, but the outline of the pie chart is very jagged. If there's a way to smooth out the path, that might work, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Many thanks ~

Not sure but I doubt exel has anything as helpful as an export to .ai command. You can probably however create a .tif or at the very least a .jpg of your exel pie chart. I recommend making your pie chart about 3 times the size you really need it at and then shrink the image down once you've placed in .ai
Also, you could have started a new string to ask this question. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
