rounded corners

Hello, how can i make round corners with the rectangular marquee tool?
I know that i can use the feather option, but this also makes my rectangule transparant.
So what can i do about this..??

...use the rounded rectangle tool, enable it as a path and convert this to a selection...

...you will find the rounded rectangle tool next to the path tool, short cut is 'u' + shift key...

...with the tool selected, in the options bar, enable the paths option found on the left and enter a value for the rounded corners on the right hand side input field...

...draw your shape, go to the paths palette and press command or control key on the work path to make it a selection...
